The Latin America Surfactants Market size was around USD 6.23 billion in 2023. It is expected to grow at 6.5% CAGR to reach USD 8.21 billion by 2028.
Market Overview:
Surfactants are compounds that reduce surface tension between two liquids or gas and liquid or liquid and solid. Surfactants may be used as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants. Surfactants have both hydrophilic (Head) and hydrophobic (Tail) groups, hence are amphiphilic in nature. The water-insoluble oil particles are trapped between the surfactants molecules forming a sphere-like structure, known as a micelle, with heads on the outside and a long chain of tails attached to the oil particles inside the micelle.
The major application of surfactants is personal care as they are an important ingredient in ointments, gels, creams, skin products and hair products. Due to the increasing demand for personal care in the world, there is good scope for the surfactants market to flourish in the coming future. Synthetic surfactants are derived from crude oil. Bio-based surfactants are prepared from palm oil and animal fats.
Increasing demand for personal care products in the world is the driving factor to this market. However, strict regulations imposed by government agencies on the production of surfactants slows the pace at which the market expands.
